Case Study

Automated competitive analysis for strategic decisions

Overcoming barriers to data access
Initial Situation

Manual competitive intelligence in the pharmaceutical industry

A client from the pharmaceutical healthcare industry analysed news articles and press releases from its competitors in order to derive strategic information. This could be publications about the research pipeline, the launch of new drugs, strategic acquisitions or investments as well as macroeconomic information such as plant closures or employee layoffs. The established process involved a very time-consuming manual collection, summary, evaluation and finally aggregation of this information, which was distilled into a management report.

HMS Solution

Automated competitive analysis with LLMs

We therefore developed a competitor analysis tool that automates the process of researching and analysing news articles about competitors using large language models (LLMs). The tool collects news articles from selected web sources, extracts the relevant information, summarises and categorises it. Finally, they are made available in a management report. It is also possible to use a chatbot to request more in-depth details on the information collected.

Advantages of the tool:

  • Efficient automation: Fast and precise analysis of competitive information.
  • Improved decision-making: Comprehensive insights into the competitive landscape.
  • Interactive evaluation: Chatbot solution for dynamic analysis of the collected data.
