Further development of our project management skills

Competence Center: Project Management

Best practices, training programme for project managers, guidelines for Scrum and agile methods, project manager café

Our clients value not only our software engineering and data science skills, but also our qualifications in leading and executing challenging IT projects. We want to continuously develop these project management qualities and promote them among our employees.

For this purpose, the most experienced project managers across all departments at HMS come together in the project management board. We maintain a representative overview of the HMS customer portfolio and the various projects in coordination with each other. We understand the multifaceted requirements for successful project management, which our project managers encounter and offer advice on.

If you have experience in software development or in the field of data science; if you have an affinity for the organizational, coordinative and, not least, communicative challenges of project management; and you are also not afraid to take on responsibility, then you could experience versatile and exciting challenges with a great deal of creative freedom.

Join us and become a project manager at HMS!

We want to advise and support not only from a technological point of view, but also from a project management perspective. We help our customers, for example, by moderating the requirements engineering process with all stakeholders, coordinating the launch phase or keeping an eye on the daily work progress during implementation as a Scrum master.

Nobody likes long-winded meetings without a clearly formulated goal. This includes a common understanding regarding responsibilities and priorities. Good project management should critically reflect on these issues, with the goal of creating the best possible framework conditions for constructive and efficient work collaboration.

Our goal is to promote continuous development and self-critical reflection. Therefore, we create spaces for the exchange of experiences in order to discuss project management paradigms and trends. There is no one-size-fits-all approach! For which kind of projects is an agile approach useful, and for which not? And establish best practices and checklists. What should be considered based on practical experience when setting up a Scrum process?

David and Benjamin talk about the work in the competence center

What do you like most about working on the project management board and what topics are you most interested in?

David: The exchange with other experienced project managers helps me develop my own abilities and presents new ways of solving problems for me. I get ideas for solving complex situations, but also tools for my daily work. In addition to this personal component, I also enjoy continuing to further popularize project management at HMS and sharing best practices that help young project managers gain a foothold.

How does working on project management board topics help you personally and what value does it add for others?

Benjamin: As part of our work on the PM Board, we compiled an Agile Guide, which bundles our experience in agile Project Management and provides a structured platform for discussion. While creating this guide, I had to reflect extensively on my experience and relate it to the knowledge of colleagues, which in turn allowed me to refine my own knowledge and learn some tips from members of the competence center. Working in the competence center motivates me personally and shows me where I can still improve. Based on our written down experiences, younger colleagues can now benefit and overcome certain hurdles more easily.
