My working day as a project manager is typically packed with phone calls and meetings. Roughly speaking, it's all about coordinating and prioritising tasks in the face of constantly (sometimes daily) changing circumstances or framework conditions. This makes time fly by. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy it.
It never gets monotonous or boring. I also work in a motivating environment with colleagues who have a high level of self-drive and aspiration for the quality of their work and who think outside the box. That gives me additional motivation.
Meeting different interests: ensuring customer satisfaction on the one hand and deploying employees according to their strengths and taking their workload into account on the other.
Excellent technological and methodical software engineering know-how, as well as the ability to understand customer needs, translate functional requirements into technical specifications and implement them accordingly.
On the one hand, projects that have run for several years and in which an application or a system at the customer's site is constantly being developed further with new releases. These are projects where applications that are already being used in a productive environment are only improved selectively.
On the other hand, I also like proof-of-concept projects, where we first check whether a customer's vision is technically feasible and scalable in just a few months and with a manageable budget.
The development of an application for a customer in the pharmaceutical industry. The application is the central standard working environment for evaluating clinical study data for several hundred users worldwide every day. The project is exciting and challenging in various ways.
On the one hand, the existing application, which is around 25 years old, is to be replaced, which implies that the user group has very strongly internalised the functionality of the old application and has corresponding expectations of the new application. On the other hand, a completely new technology stack is to be used and the interface systems are also to be modernised, resulting in many dependencies. This also requires the consideration of many stakeholder interests.
Because here I have the opportunity to actively shape and achieve something myself.
Firstly, the technological expertise at HMS is very broadly diversified and we are not tied to implementing applications and services from specific providers. We can therefore advise customers independently in order to find the right solution for them. However, in order to make the best possible use of our technological expertise, we attach great importance to understanding the customer's wishes and their underlying motivation and vision.
At HMS, in addition to the focus on business objectives, great care is taken to ensure that the personal development of employees goes hand in hand with their role within the company.
The hierarchy is relatively flat. Issues that concern employees find their way directly to the management via the divisional management, without getting bogged down on the way due to too many hierarchical levels.
