In my projects, data science and software engineering come together, actually always in the cloud. Even as a project manager, I still do a lot of hands-on work and deal with both cloud infrastructure design and the development of the actual services. The coding focus is clearly on C#, but Python also plays an important role.
HMS offers experts from the fields of software engineering and data science / AI in equal measure. Our people are incredibly quick to acquire domain knowledge and have a hands-on mentality that quickly leads to valuable solutions.

First-class colleagues, exciting projects and (almost) always enough Bofrost spaghetti ice cream.
On the one hand, care is taken within the project work to ensure that employees take on roles in which they can develop further. But there are also organised opportunities outside of the projects: All employees at HMS have a budget of one day per month, which can be used freely for knowledge development in consultation with the divisional management. Various competence centers (including Software Engineering, Amazon Web Services, Machine Learning, Soft Skills) provide orientation and opportunities to exchange ideas and network with colleagues with similar interests. This internal offering is regularly supplemented by external seminars in which soft skills for everyday life as a software developer and consultant are also trained.

Doubters
I get on very well with my colleagues, I feel challenged and supported both personally and professionally. And after work, Heidelberg is a great city for me and my family.

[Editor's note: We're working on it. 🤓 Update: done!]
I studied physics with a lot of passion and did my doctorate at the German Cancer Research Center. After that, I stayed in science for another seven years, first as a postdoc and later I was able to advance my ideas with my own small research group. It was really more than just a job for me, but when it no longer developed as I had imagined, it was clear that it was time for something new.
I didn't know HMS at all before I applied. I found out about the company in the traditional way through a job advertisement. Before that, I had been looking for possible new positions for a long time, but was never really convinced of a change in the course of other processes. At HMS, on the other hand, I quickly realized that it was a good fit for me in terms of the area of responsibility and, above all, the environment.
As a career changer, I had a generous training budget at my disposal. This gave me plenty of time to work on my basic knowledge of software engineering and cloud technologies alongside my actual project work. I also received excellent support and guidance from experienced colleagues during this process. Over time, I was able to take on more and more responsibility within the projects and quickly develop from a more supporting role to a leading role. In concrete terms, this means that I now have more and more conceptual influence in the team as Dev Lead and am involved in sales aspects and management tasks as project manager.
As a scientist, I have become more and more specialized through my long career and this niche knowledge is currently really sitting in a deep drawer, waiting for our sales department to come around the corner with a radiation oncology project. This can sometimes be a bit of a problem, but I also realize that many of the skills that I have trained as a scientist benefit me at HMS. For example, the scientific understanding and reduction of problems helps immensely when designing algorithms. Thanks to my background in physics and medicine, it is always easy for me to familiarize myself with our customers' domains. And interpersonally, we at HMS are not so far removed from a dynamic working group at a research institute.
