I log into the HMS network in the morning from my home office and check my emails and Teams channels. Then it's time for the daily scrum. Depending on how full my calendar is, I can start developing straight away or prepare for a meeting. In the afternoon, I'm either in the office or continue working from home.
I really enjoy working with my colleagues and dealing with customers.
The biggest challenge is constantly familiarising myself with new environments and technologies. In the customer environment, there are very specific terminologies and approaches that you first have to understand in order to be able to do really helpful work.
New employees can expect a great welcoming culture and the opportunity to quickly familiarise themselves with exciting topics.
My team is characterised by its diverse skills and experience. There are colleagues who have been with the customer for what seems like eternity and know their way around almost every corner. Then there is the motivation of younger colleagues. This results in a super dynamic mix.
I'm currently working on development projects in the .NET and MATLAB environment, which can be roughly categorized as ETL projects. Before that, I also had SAS projects in the zOS and OpenVMS environment.
In a customer project at an international financial institution, I am working in a small team to develop a customized ETL solution for economists and analysts. Technologically, the project is based on SQL Server and .NET with MATLAB as the front end. The team spirit in particular, which offers a healthy mix of years of experience and expertise, is a great motivation for me. However, the most fun is the dynamic exchange with the users, who as power users are not only users, but can also report valuable feedback and solve problems independently.
Because HMS advertises its family-friendliness and puts this into practice.
My employer is a good fit because it sees the development of its employees as a central component of its success.
Great focus on work-life balance and employee development.
The ability to master a wide range of technologies and working methods and to build long-term customer relationships in order to deliver the best result.
I have not experienced rigid hierarchies. In my experience, it is always possible to reach the person in question via short channels.
The transition to a new project, in which I previously had little expertise, was supported by HMS by means of certification and I was able to start immediately afterwards.
Have the courage! A lateral entry is also possible at HMS and in many cases even desirable.
Finally normal company conferences with real people again instead of virtual team events. 😉
