Competence Center: Life Science

In the competence center of life science, we focus on the specific features of software development in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. Our expert group combines our technical knowledge with the know-how our life science customers’ have in their respective domains. As a companion to life science companies, we make a direct contribution to assuring that the analyses performed while developing medicines and medical devices take place in accordance with the current state of the art and the regulatory requirements.

Fed up with the sluggish pace of digitalization in healthcare? We get straight to the point and help shape the future!

Our Senior Statistical Programmer Irmgard Talks About Her Work in the Competence Center

Which topics do you work on exactly in the competence center?
To keep up to date on the CDISC, I attend the Interchange every year and belong to the German User Group. Apart from the ongoing updates to standards, new issues are now raised in the CDISC every year. Currently (2022), they are trying to drive forward open source and automation. Webinars have also been launched to teach the standards.

Which methods do you address and how?
The highly regulated life science industry also wants to exploit the advantages of agile development processes. We help with this balancing act between validated systems that do what is required and can be quickly adapted to new technical developments.

What do you like most of all about working in this competence center?
The interdisciplinary nature of the cooperation. The mixture of specialist knowledge and modern technologies is unique in life science. You learn something new every day.

Examples for Knowledge Circles

What special features and regulations have to be observed when developing software that is declared and used as a medical product?

Everyone wants to be in the cloud, but what has to be taken into account if computer systems are going to be validated there? How is patient data dealt with? How does the validation of deep learning networks function?

Technological progress is changing how knowledge is acquired in medicine. The clinical trials landscape needs to evolve and adapt to keep pace in order for these advancements to have an impact on public health.
